Usually there are no side effects. Only disposable stainless steel needles (very thin, smooth point) are use with each treatment, there is no risk of infection. Insertion through the skin is not painful, once needles are in place, there is no pain felt.
May experience original symptoms worsen for a few days. Change in emotion, appetite, sleep, bowel movement or urination pattern.
These should not cause concern as these are indications that the acupuncture is working.

- Complex / Long standing conditions – 1 to 2x/week for several months recommended
- Acute problems – usually fewer visits
- Health maintenance – 4x/yr may all be necessary
Do's & Don't on the 'Day of Treatment'
To enhance the value of a treatment, following guidelines are important:- Do not eat large meal prior and post treatment
- Do not engage in physical and sexual activities, or consume alcohol within 6 hours prior and post treatment.
- Plan your day activities so that you can rest after treatment. Especially important for the first few visits.
- Remember to keep notes of your response to the treatment for follow up visits.
