It is important to know as what one should expect after laser treatment is over, some simple precautions to be taken and the specific follow-up measures for ensuring faster healing.

Always approach a centre that employs only qualified professionals and insists on approved procedures with the best equipment to ensure patient safety. They invariably employ experienced surgeons who will always keep their patients informed about pre and post therapy care.

For example, a patient needs to avoid direct exposure to intense sunlight for about a month prior to undergoing laser skin resurfacing. Always use at least SPF 30 (or greater) sunscreen, if asked to do so by the treating physician prior to the treatment. Take antiviral medications and oral antibiotics as prescribed.

One needs to be equally watchful after the treatment, but need not get panicky about immediate reactions. For instance, a patient’s skin may turn slightly red after laser Acne treatment, but there is no need to worry because this is just temporary. Usually, the reddishness will vanish in a few hours. One may also experience light peeling and slight dryness. It is recommended that sunblock is used. Also, it is advised not to ‘pick’ at the tender skin when peeling.
